Woman held in 2 crore cheating case

MUMBAI: The Antop Hill police on Friday arrested Pushpa Iyer (44) for duping several persons to the tune of Rs 2 crore by promising them Mhada and MMRDA flats at rates less than the market price.

According to the police, Iyer collected Rs 2 lakh each from 100 victims in 2008. She was arrested after one of the victims, Sarita Gupta, lodged a complaint when the accused threatened hershowing her political clout

Gupta, in her complaint, said, “I paid Rs 2 lakh to Iyer for a Mhada house. She claimed to be a member of the Congress committee and the special executive officer (SEO). She said she wll use her political clout to get me the house.”

After the arrest, Iyer has confessed to the crime, the police said. She has been booked for cheating and forgery as well as criminal intimidation.

The accused allegedly threatened the victims when they approached her inquiring about the status of the house. On learning about the fraud they lodged complaint.
