Family court clerk caught taking bribe
VADODARA: A clerk posted in chief family court was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting bribe from Tejas Kothari, a resident of Harni Road here on Monday. Gajra alias Geeta Patel was caught accepting bribe worth Rs 250 at her office. She was arrested immediately by the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) officials. According to the cops, Patel had demanded money from Kothari to reveal the status of his case.
Kothari had filed a petition in the additional district judge’s court in 2009 which was registered under The Guardian and Wards Act against his wife Pinkal. Tejas and Pinkal had got married in 2005 but got separated later. Tejas wanted temporary custody of his five-year-old son Omshree. “When Kothari approached Patel to inquire about the present status of the case on July 30, she told him that she will have to find out his file. She asked him to come on Monday with Rs 250 between 11 to 2 pm. Kothari approached ACB officials following which a trap was laid on Monday,” said ACB police inspector Kalpesh Solanki. Patel accepted Rs 250 from Kothari but returned Rs 110 out of it.
“Several people including lawyers told us that Patel used to keep lot of work pending. Even the petitioners were fed up with her,” Solanki added.
