TV actress frames driver-boyfriend, accuses him of molestation for TRPs
A TV actress’ bid to get better TRP ratings for her show and get rid of her driver-cum-boyfriend by claiming that he molested her fell flat on Saturday when Thane Sessions Court granted bail to the accused and held that prima facie there is no evidence to support her claims.
On Thursday night, Ekta Tiwari, 28, who plays the lead, Radha, in TV show Tere Mere Sapne filed a sexual assault complaint against her driver Sajid Syed, 25, with the Navghar (Bhayander E) Police Station. Next day, Syed surrendered before the police and was then presented before Judicial Magistrate A G Das at Thane Sessions Court on Saturday.

During the Saturday’s bail hearing, defence counsel Edgar Braganza contended before the magistrate that Tiwari and Syed were in a relationship and both had even recently visited Tiwari’s native place in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, to meet her parents, for a possible wedding. He presented a record of 518 text messages exchanged between the two as proof.
He contended that when Tiwari was admitted in the Riddhi Siddhi Hospital, Mira Road from June 19 to June 22 for treatment of a throat infection, it was Syed who signed all the consent documents during her stay in the hospital.
The defence further added that the actress had sacked Syed a few days ago “after he caught her in bed with her director in a compromising position in her Ramdev Park apartment in Mira Road”.
“She then filed a molestation complaint against Syed to use this to increase the show’s TRPs,” he went on to add.
In her judgement, Das observed that the 518 text messages Tiwari had exchanged with the accused, who was her driver, “were not related to their professional work and were more on the intimate side”.
The court also noted that it seemed that Tiwari, who had bagged the lead role in the TV serial a short while ago, accused Syed of molestation in order to further the TRP ratings and also to seek media attention. “There is no prima facie evidence in the case and the bail is granted to the accused,” Das observed.
Ekta Tiwari, the lead actress of Tere Mere Sapne and a resident of Surya Darshan Apartment, Ramdev Park, Mira Road (E), had employed Sajid Syed as a driver three months ago. Syed, a resident of Naya Nagar, was employed on the recommendation of her production crew member. But on 15 July, she sacked Syed.
After the sacking, Syed allegedly started sending her lewd SMSes. According to the FIR, Syed barged into her home and tried to rape her. When Tiwari’s friend intervened, Syed escaped.
