A day after Mumbai Mirror report, “With Police outside, producer refuses to open door for 4 days”, Bollywood producer Gaurang Doshi finally opened up – not the door of his Pedder Road flat but his version over the dowry case row.

Gaurang Doshi’s wife has filed a cruelty and dowry harassment case against him

When contacted on Sunday, Doshi, 30, claimed that he is in Delhi and has no clue about the presence of policemen outside his flat.

“I am in Delhi, busy with a new project which will be launched on November 20. I had left my wife five years ago. I really don’t know what she is trying to prove now. I have no clue why the police are camping outside my flat,” Doshi said.

When asked if he would inform the police that he is in Delhi and not Mumbai, Doshi said, “I don’t want to give any clarification. I am busy and   will be back in Mumbai within a week.” However, Doshi’s wife, Madhuri alleges that he is still hiding inside the flat.

“I don’t care if he takes any extreme step inside the house as he has tortured me, physically and mentally. He is a coward. He will never harm himself. I am certain that he is still hiding inside the house,” Madhuri said.

On Sunday, Mumbai Mirror had published a story on how Doshi, who is wanted by the police in a dowry case registered by his wife, is hiding inside his flat on the third floor of Vikas Building at Pedder Road.

The police have been camping outside his flat for the last five days as the court has issued a non-bailable warrant against him for not appearing in the court. In 2005, more than 10 years after their marriage, Madhuri had filed complaint of cruelty and dowry harassment against him at the Gamdevi Police Station.

Police claim that in the night, the lights are switched on inside Doshi’s flat. “But there is no noise of television or radio from inside. We know, he is inside the flat but we are just waiting for the legal orders, so that we can enter the house and arrest him,” said a police officer from the Gamdevi Police Station.

Policemen have been stationed outside Doshi’s Pedder Road flat since September 1, who is under self-inflicted house arrest along with his domestic help.

Doshi has refused to open the door of his house in the last five days. He has also not allowed his employees – a man and a woman – to leave the house.

Courting controversies

In 2007, Flora Saini, an aspiring actress had filed a case against Doshi alleging that he sent her obscene text messages and threatened her. He was arrested by the Oshiwara police for assault and rape before being released on bail.
