Woman, her lover nabbed for murder of husband

NEW DELHI: A 37-year-old woman who went to a police station to file a missing report about her husband landed in police net along with her 23-year-old lover for allegedly murdering him. Manju Joshi, her lover Lekhraj and Deepak Sharma (27) were arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder of Dinesh Kumar Joshi, said DCP (outer) Chhaya Sharma.

“Manju was very annoyed with her husband as he was a habitual drinker and used to often beat her and other family members. His ill-habits ruined the family as he had sold his flat and other household articles,” the DCP said.

Manju soon got close to her landlord’s son, Lekhraj, as he used to help her financially. She along with Lekhraj allegedly planned to get rid of Dinesh by killing him. On June 16, Manju left her husband, who was in a drunken state, with Laxman. Soon Laxman along with his friend, Deepak, took Dinesh to a vacant plot in Rohini sector 23 on a two-wheeler and killed him by slashing him with blades. They then smashed his face with a stone so that no one can identify the body.

During investigation, it came to light that Dinesh and Lekhraj had a fight in the first week of May over the latter’s illicit relationship with the former’s wife. Following the incident, Dinesh started living with his sisters Nisha and Seema.

On June 15, Dinesh and Manju went to Seema’s house. The next day they returned. Four days later, Manju allegedly called Seema and told her that Dinesh had left them at Rohini sector-5 on June 16 and didn’t return home since then.

It also came to light that Manju was not interested in lodging the report about her ‘missing’ husband with police and that she had a soft corner for Lekhraj, the DCP said. “When police talked to her children they revealed that their father was last seen with Lekhraj. The woman and Lekhraj were questioned and they confessed to the have committed crime,” Sharma said.

In another incident, one Rakesh was arrested for murdering a bank employee, Dalip Kumar, as he suspected that the latter was trying to forge a relationship with his girlfriend. “During investigation, it was observed that Dalip was in constant touch with one Renu and that she used to speak with one Rahul till mid of April. Initially, she said that Rahul was her ‘phone friend’ but on sustained interrogation, she said that he was indeed her friend and that they used to meet every Saturday,” said DCP Sharma.

During interrogation, Rakesh said that he had an affair with Renu from 2001. Some months back, Renu got a job in a public sector bank and used to meet Rahul only on weekends. Renu recently came in contact with Dilip Kumar (also an employee in Canara Bank) and became friendly with him. Rahul felt that she was drifting away from him and this annoyed him. He felt that Dilip and Renu might get married one day. He shared the matter with his friends and they all kidnapped Dilip and killed him on May 5. The others accused in the case are on the run, police said.
