In December 2003, Shubha Shankar, along with her boyfriend Arun Varma and two others, had murdered her fiance G V Girish just four days after their engagement. On Wednesday, nearly seven years after Girish succumbed to injuries after being beaten on his head with a steel rod, all four of the accused were given the life sentence.Apart from life imprisonment, Shubha got an additional three years of rigorous imprisonment for destruction of evidence.Judge V S Vantigodi Vantigodi also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on each of those convicted, and ordered a payment of Rs 2 lakh as compensation to Girish’s family. Those sentenced, apart from Shubha and Arun, are his cousin Dinesh and a local goon, Venkatesh.

After hearing arguments from both sides in the morning, the judge handed out the punishment in the evening session. As soon as he did, Girish’s sister  Sunitha broke down.

Shubha, meanwhile, stayed calm all day, showing no emotion even as the sentence was read out.

Her father Shankar Narayan got busy discussing the verdict with his lawyers, who later confirmed that they would appeal in the High Court. No member of her family addressed the media. Earlier in the morning, the court hall had filled up quickly as hundreds of advocates trooped in to watch the final day’s proceedings in one of the city’s most high-profile murder cases over the last decade.

    Hello dear Friends

Nothing to worry, the lawyer of this shubha has capacity to purchase any judge in High court. Accordingly the judge and judgments will be purchased and she will come out clean

Though I feel sad for Girish, I have to agree with you Ramesh. Shubha’s lawyer has that calibre.

Whatever maybe, the way media has showcased this case shows how uncultured the media and general public is. Everyday, there are hundreds of women who are being killed and abused by men. Why aren’t these cases given some much publicity. Shame on the media and the prosecution for abusing a young lady in public like this. Everybody has a right to fight for justice. What if Shubha and these kids are really not at fault. Law is for everyone. You seem to be talking like you you have paid money to lawyers and judges ? Wish I could forward your comment to the judges.

    Dear Madam

Please forward my comments to judges. It is known to every one that, courts have become vegetable market and judgments can be purchased the way the vegetables are purchased.

      Dear Ramesh,

If you are so confident about the status of our judicial system and you have the guts to say this in public about the judges and lawyers, please forward or post your contact information or talk to the moderator and have him send me your information. I will make sure it reaches the High Court of Karnataka and the Bar Council head Mr. Jayakumar Patil. In fact, I will even forward it to Mr. CV Nagesh. I real mean what I’m saying.

If you are really man enough to say this and have the guts and STAND by what you say. Do it !!! Make sure you forward the correct residential address so that when you get a summon from the court, you will be in a position to attend the case.

And from my end, I will see that I see you in the court.

I do strongly agree with you deepa. People can only make back bites and nothing else. And no one perfect and can only critize others that when they have fallen down. But once she is strong and be in good position people forget everything and go to her.

But they even donot what has happend exactly and talk what they feel like. Hell with peoples who dont have guts and speak only from back.
As you said even media people donot knw exactly wht has happend from the beginning. but keeping the climax they build up their own stories and make money and want to get fame tats it. But these media people dont knw wht is going on in their houses other than speaking about other peoples.
        Shit on media peoples.

Yes I agree with Deepa and Shylu. Whatever maybe, the way media has showcased this case shows how uncultured the media and general public is. young lady in public like this.

Arun Verma might have thought anyhow I am going to be at fault why not take Shubha also? I know how men
think when they don’t get what they want.
